Essential Elements of Science Classroom Expectations
EXPECTATIONS - In order to be successful this year in 9th grade science, all students will be expected to:
Be to class on time (in your seat by the start of the bell).
Leave all gum, candy, food and drink outside of class.
Bring all necessary school supplies(pen/pencil, paper, notebook)to class.
Show respect to others at all times.
Raise hand & be called on to share in class discussions.
Follow all other school-wide rules while in class.
CONSEQUENCES - If the student chooses NOT to follow the classroom expectations, the teacher & or student may choose any of the following:
Reminder/Warning to student
This action can be as simple as the teacher reminding the student of the problem behavior. It may also involve the teacher reminding the student by word or action that they’ve been warned.
Teacher conference with student
Keeping the student after class for one minute or so, having them come in during lunch/after school(detention) would all constitute a teacher conference. From now on, all steps are documented by the teacher.
Detention
If the student continues to break the rule or make inappropriate choices, then they will be given a detention. The student will have two school days to serve the detention in my room (364).
Parent notification
I will either contact the parent by phone or by letter at this point. This may also include having a parent conference with the student concerning their behavior in class.
Administrative referral
Last step in the consequences process. This is the most serious of all the steps. This means that I, as a teacher, have done all that I can to correct the behavior.

PROCEDURES - These are the day to day classroom operations:
WHEN CLASS BEGINS - Make sure you get everything done BEFORE the tardy bell rings. This includes throwing your gum or candy away, sharpening your pencil, getting supplies from your drawer, etc.
TARDIES - All tardies will be dealt with according to the school-wide plan for tardies.
1st tardy = 15 minute detention
2nd tardy = 30 minute detention and a call home
3rd tardy = Administrative referral
DETENTIONS - All detentions are served in Mr. Post’s room (364). You have two school days to serve your detention and a call home will be made to your parents. If you fail to serve the assigned detention appropriate actions will be taken.
MISSING ASSIGNMENTS - If you miss class for whatever reason, you can find out what you missed on the large assignment calendar in the classroom. In most cases, you will be given two school days for each day absent from class. It is your responsibility to find what you’re missing and to make it up (even excused absences)!
SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS - All students will be expected to purchase a spiral notebook like the one shown in class. This is what you will use for most, if not all, assignments that we will do this year. I will periodically check & award points for properly maintaining the notebooks.
STUDENT PLANNERS - You will be expected to keep your calendar, in your student planner, up-to-date on a daily basis. I will periodically grade the calendars and award points. One point is given for maintaining the assignment calendar each day. This may not seem like a lot of points, but you have the opportunity to receive 90 points at the end of the semester!
BATHROOM PASSES - Two bathroom passes are given each quarter, or four per semester. Extra credit will be given for those passes not used.
BORROWING SUPPLIES - When doing classroom work, there will be times when you need to borrow supplies like calculators or rulers. I may require that you give me something of value, like keys, money, watch, wallet, comb, etc. This way, I will be certain to get my supplies back.
RAISING HANDS - You will be required to raise your hand & called on by the teacher, if you wish to participate in the classroom discussion. This may also include getting out of your seat during class. The only exception is when we are doing a laboratory activity.
LABORATORY ACTIVITIES - We will be doing labs this semester. In order to ensure safety, there will be safety rules strictly enforced at all times during lab activities. Failure to follow the rules will result in loss of lab privilege and participation points for the day. All students will be expected to score a 100% on a safety quiz before being allowed to participate in any labs.
WHEN CLASS ENDS - All students must be in their assigned seats and quiet before class is dismissed. In addition, the classroom and all lab stations must be cleaned and supplies returned before dismissal.
